William of Malmesbury

Born between 1090 and 1096, William of Malmesbury was an historian or chronicler and was educated at Malmesbury Abbey in Wiltshire. He became a librarian there and probably also spent some time at Glastonbury as his works contain references to materials at that abbey. Amongst other works, he wrote Gesta Regum Anglorum , which is a history of England from 499 to 1127 from which part of our knowledge of the Norman Conquest comes. He died in about 1143.
