Norman Conquest Encyclopedia

The growth of the Church at the time of the Norman Conquest led to the construction of more and larger buildings. The style of architecture, known as Romanesque, is characterised by the thick, heavy walls, rounded arches and geometric patterning of the carvings that decorate the buildings. One the finest examples is Durham Cathedral.
