Mail

The armour of the Normanknight as made of mail, flexible and metal. The most usual form was ring mail (often known as chain mail), but scale mail and lamellar mail were also known. It mainly took the form of a shirt, a byrnie or hauberk, which had a hood to cover the head over which a helmet was worn and sleeves reaching halfway down the forearm. By the 11th century the fighting garb of the Anglo-Saxon warrior was very similar.
