Angevin

The Angevins were the descendants of the rulers of Anjou, a territory on the lower Loire River in France, equivalent to the modern Department of Maine-et-Loire. In 1128 Henry I arranged a marriage between his daughter Matilda, widow of Henry (Heinrich) V of Germany, and the fourteen-year-old Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou. Their son was Henry II of England.
